What does Irregular or Late Menstruation, Amenorrhea, Dysmenorrhea, Metrorrhagia, Leukorrhea and Menorrhagia all have in common?
Aside from being hard to spell, you may be familiar with them!
Are you experiencing difficulties and dread Menstruating?
Traditional Chinese Medicine has a deep understanding of Gynecology and can offer much relief. It is said that because of the Period’s quality, one has more information about internal processes, and therefore easier to treat! As someone with PCOS, I can attest to the relief and ongoing support TCM has given me, the shift has been incredible!
Here are somethings to try, while receiving consistent Acupuncture:
• Try a Menstrual cup to forge a relationship to amount, colour and consistency of the fluid.
• Track your cycle using an App or calendar.
• During the bleed, keep your hands, feet and abdomen warm and dry, best not to cold plunge just during this time!
Align with your cycle by supporting the phases:
• Just after Menstruation focus on nourishing foods (meat and the organs, bone broth, gelatin), cooked vegetables and fats. See a Health provider about appropriate nourishing herbs during the 2 weeks after menstraution ends.
• During Ovulation (week 2): ramp up excercise. Keep cardio under 20min and incorporate strengthening exercises. From week 2 to week 4, Herbs that invigorate the body are recommended, see a Professional.
• Luteal phase (week 3) incorporate more stress relieving activities. This is the time for complex carbohydrates to help your body synthesize progesteron! Balance with non-starchy Veg, and move your body if you feel overwhelmed.
• During Menstruation it is important to give your body what it needs. While life will demand upon us, take time to carve out space. Keeping hands, feet and abdomen warm is very important at this time. Soothing herbal teas (peppermint, ginger) are helpful.
• Try this traditional one during and 1 week after:
- 3-4 Jujube (Red) Dates
- 3 Longan fruits
- 2 tsp Goji berries
- 2 slices fresh ginger
- 1 Tbsp rose petals.
- Decoct the first 4 ingredients by simmering for 20 minutes, remove from heat and add rose. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Before savouring, let your hands feel the warmth of the cup. Take a few slow breaths into the lowest edges of your ribcage ~ To your health!
